Apparently this:

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.  These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.  Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to

Plus a tin foil hat

Equals:  citizens are spying on each other/freedom of speech is in peril/Orwell’s 1984/ McCarthyism.*

Egad. And here I thought The White House was just trying to track and refute the bullshit ball of lies masquerading as thoughtful opposition.  Silly me.  I guess they’re creating an enemies list with the intent to punish/arrest dissenters.  Good thing none of those dissenters are speaking out in public .. oh wait.  I hope people never find out about the warrantless wiretapping that the Bush administration authorized.  Or the fifty other actual bad things that were covered up and lied about to protect an administration and party’s collective hiney.    Here’s the thing, it’s hard to argue with people who are scared.  Fear is a powerful motivator.  And the people who lie to propagate fear have the boundless resources of fantasy and fairy tale and bad political thriller at their disposal while everyone else is limited to reality.
