Former pretend pimp and current amateur phone tapper James O’Keefe has been ordered to live with his parents.  O’Keefe was arrested Monday for allegedly doing something really stupid and illegal in the office of Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu.  No one knows for sure if it was more Punked than Watergate but there’s no doubt it was Jackass.

Sorry for the gap in posts … life sort of busy.  Back at it tomorrow with some thoughts on the SOTU.

That’s the message to congressional Democrats.  If you want health reform to pass, call your representative.  If they are in favor of passing it, give ’em props.  If they’re not, tell them why they should and remind them you’re paying attention.  This is how democracy by the people works–by you and me getting involved.   Pass the damn bill.  And pass this information on.

So Scott Brown’s win Tuesday night in a Massachusetts  special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s seat means democrats have lost their super-majority in the senate and health care reform’s future is uncertain.  If that isn’t annoying enough, we could be watching the democrats absolutely fold to the republicans–you know, the ones with no ideas to fix anything but maintain a laser-like focus on dragging their feet, saying no and being, in general, complete asshats.  House Democrats have the power to fix this.  They can pass the bill without changes meaning the sixty votes it got in the senate right after Christmas still stands.  The bill goes to Obama.  It gets signed.  And then they can start fighting about bank regulation and cap and trade.  Hooray.

Other thoughts here and here and here.

How to put pressure on congressional Democrats here.

One of Andrew Sullivan’s readers  nails it.

Suffice to say that Republicans lecturing the country about fiscal responsibility, economic recovery, governing – or anything else, for that matter – would be like Mick Jagger lecturing Mother Teresa about excessive promiscuity.

I was looking at some photos out of Haiti today and about every third one made me cry.  There is one of a man holding the body of his dead daughter.  His face was agony.  And her face, so very beautiful, looked more  sleepy than dead.  Then there’s the morgue.  When piled together, the bodies are disjointed and anonymous and there are so many of them.  Seven thousand  buried together yesterday in a mass grave.  It looks desperate and sad and then … hope.  Citizens searching with bare hands and makeshift tools to rescue and transport the injured. The Red Cross raising over five million dollars in two days by text messages alone.  Dozens of relief organizations coordinating to provide comfort, supplies and logistical support.  The U.S.S Comfort stocking its supplies, leaving Baltimore Saturday morning.  Nearly ten thousand U.S. troops deploying to the region.  The U.S Air Force building a makeshift control tower to monitor air traffic within 48 hours of the earthquake.  The thousands of medical, rescue and engineering professionals on the ground or en route from a dozen nations to lend their expertise to healing, stabilizing, and rebuilding.   Let’s all pitch in.

… and despite being a disappointingly and somewhat destructively average president, I think he’ll be able to help with this one.
