The next time my familial Facebook friends have a debate about education policy, I won’t have to quietly boil, as I have sworn not engage on that platform, but rather I can post this and feel confident that it sums up my feelings without any swearing.

So. Stupid.

I suppose we should not be surprised that a small and crazy contingent has decided that the President of the United States talking to children about working hard in school is a terrible idea.  To be fair, they are also worried about unicorns goring children at bus stops.  Magical horse, my ass.

An unrelated aside:  it’s funny when conservatives worry that schools are trying to teach “the gay agenda.”  As my best teacher friend says, “I can’t get them to bring a pencil to class.  How can I convince them to be gay?”

If they’re smart, they’ll try to be part of the solution. National, state and local unions should have been in the “get rid of bad teachers” game long ago.  And how about a plan to get rid of crapola administrators too?  I worked in a district that moved a principal to my school after she had been run out of one down the road.   Then she moved up to assistant superintendent.   A good administrator inspires staff, is engaged with students, sets the school’s vision and works their ass off to implement it.  Bad ones do none of that and make even the best teachers’ jobs much, much harder.
