I was looking at some photos out of Haiti today and about every third one made me cry.  There is one of a man holding the body of his dead daughter.  His face was agony.  And her face, so very beautiful, looked more  sleepy than dead.  Then there’s the morgue.  When piled together, the bodies are disjointed and anonymous and there are so many of them.  Seven thousand  buried together yesterday in a mass grave.  It looks desperate and sad and then … hope.  Citizens searching with bare hands and makeshift tools to rescue and transport the injured. The Red Cross raising over five million dollars in two days by text messages alone.  Dozens of relief organizations coordinating to provide comfort, supplies and logistical support.  The U.S.S Comfort stocking its supplies, leaving Baltimore Saturday morning.  Nearly ten thousand U.S. troops deploying to the region.  The U.S Air Force building a makeshift control tower to monitor air traffic within 48 hours of the earthquake.  The thousands of medical, rescue and engineering professionals on the ground or en route from a dozen nations to lend their expertise to healing, stabilizing, and rebuilding.   Let’s all pitch in.

… and despite being a disappointingly and somewhat destructively average president, I think he’ll be able to help with this one.
