I get, in a heterosexual progressive sort of way, why gay rights are imperative.  Was the recent legal brief filed in defense of DOMA offensive and hateful?  Yes.  Does someone have some ‘splaining to do? Yes.  Am I worried that Obama will do nothing on gay rights.  No.

Prepare to be annoyed:

On the tastelessness of David Letterman’s joke. (terribly grotesque & inappropriate ad on left–careful at work or with kiddies)

On health care.

PS:  I know many liberals hated Bush, like really hated him, thought he was a facist, and wrote awful things about him.  Not much new in hating the guy you voted against.   But is the tone more sinister?  Does the violence seem new?

I’ve been following the abortion discussion at The Daily Dish since the murder of Dr. George Tiller last week.  It’s been quite moving to read people’s personal accounts.  These are heartbreaking stories–many from couples who wanted children.  The choice position can be portrayed as a gift to frivolous, selfish women who choose abortion as easily as they choose a nail color.  Bullshit.  It’s about access to healthcare.  And yes, it’s about deciding for yourself with your family and your God what is best.  If a women decides to carry a baby to term who has zero chance of surviving after delivery, that is her choice.  No one should take that away from her.  But who is the asshole who would force a woman to carry dead fetus to term against her will?  Who does that help?
